Nuclear Plant Tarps & Covers

Nuclear Plant Covers & Tarps for Contamination Control

Few environments demand more from a protective material than a nuclear facility. Covers that shed debris, barriers that hold back airborne particles, and seals that keep moisture off a stored component all directly affect work safety and contamination control when work is happening inside containment.

That's where we can help. Reef Industries has spent more than 65 years making the reinforced film laminates that plants, outage contractors, and decommissioning crews rely on for construction, refueling outages, maintenance, and long-term layup.

Manufactured in Houston and fabricated to your dimensions, our products support nuclear contamination control and keep schedules on track when downtime is measured in hours.

Related Nuclear Products

These are the Reef Industries products that nuclear teams order most often. Each is available in stock sizes or custom-fabricated to your specifications.

  • Contaminated Equipment Covers: Reinforced covers for protecting and isolating contaminated components, with fire-retardant and low-contamination options.
  • Fire-Retardant Covers: Flame-resistant laminates for areas with ignition sources, hot work, or strict housekeeping requirements.
  • Heat-Shrinkable Covers: Patented multi-ply heat-shrinkable laminate that conforms tightly to motors, valves, and pumps for sealed protection during storage and transport.
  • Plant Dividers & Dust Partitions: Sized barriers that separate work areas and limit the spread of dust and debris.
  • Scaffolding Tarps: Enclosure tarps for containing work performed on scaffolding.
  • Reinforced Plastic Sheeting: Cord-reinforced sheeting for general protection, containment, and barrier applications in 6, 8, 10, 12, 16 and 18mil thicknesses.

Made for Foreign Material Exclusion

Foreign Material Exclusion is central to safe plant operation, and finding the right covers and barriers is important to the program's operation. Loose debris, moisture, and airborne particles that reach an open system or a critical component can lead to costly rework and added dose.

Our nuclear plant covers, tarps, and barriers establish a physical exclusion boundary around equipment, hatches, and work areas, giving FME coordinators a reliable way to keep contaminants where they belong.

Materials Engineered for Nuclear Plant Conditions

Reef Industries' laminates are designed for the conditions found in containment areas and across all supporting nuclear components, auxiliary systems, and nuclear plant infrastructure. Many of our materials carry anti-static properties to limit particle attraction, and our covers can be fabricated with reinforced scrim, heat-sealed seams, grommets, and custom dimensions to fit any component.

Because we manufacture the laminate and fabricate the finished product in-house, we can match a material grade to your exact application rather than asking you to settle for a stock size.

More About Fire-Retardant Covers

Fire performance matters in any plant setting. All of our fire-retardant covers are fire-rated and pass NFPA 701 Large Scale "Standard Methods of Fire Tests for Flame-Resistant Textiles and Films," and most carry a Class I / Class A flame spread rating per UBC-42 and ASTM E-84.

Fire-retardant grades are reinforced with a high-strength cord grid to resist tearing, and covers can be labeled with the applicable fire-retardant specification and designation when required.

More About Heat-Shrinkable Covers

For equipment that needs a tight, protective seal during storage or transport, our heat-shrinkable covers conform closely to the contours of motors, valves, pumps, and other components. Griff-Shrink® is a patented multi-ply heat-shrinkable laminate that combines polyethylene and specialty shrink films over a reinforcement grid, creating uniform tear resistance in all directions.

Several grades are available, including a 3-ply VCI laminate and a heavy-duty 5-ply VCI build. For applications centered on critical materials or work areas, Griffolyn® TX-1600FR UVS is UV-stabilized, heat-shrinkable, reinforced, and fire-retardant in a single material.

Support Across Outages and Decommissioning

Beyond covers, plants rely on us for contaminated equipment covers, plant dividers and dust partitions, scaffolding tarps, and reinforced plastic containment products that support both routine maintenance and large capital projects. During refueling outages, when access windows are short and dose budgets are tight, having barriers and covers ready to your specifications keeps work moving.

The same products support decommissioning and waste handling, ensuring reliable containment of contaminated material to protect workers and the surrounding site. Each item can be customized with the colors, sizes, and material specifications your procedures call for.

Frequently Asked Questions About Nuclear Covers & Tarps

Can nuclear covers be fabricated for unusually large or oddly shaped components?

Yes. We custom fabricate to your exact dimensions, sketches, or a sample of the component, including fitted covers for motors and valves, sized barriers for hatches and partitions, and bagged enclosures for stored equipment. If a stock size does not fit your application, we build one that does.

What makes a cover suitable for use inside a nuclear facility?

Suitability depends on the application. Plants commonly look for anti-static properties, flame resistance, low halogen or sulfur content for components near stainless steel, and documentation such as spec sheets and safety data sheets. Reef Industries can supply specifications so your engineering team can confirm a material against site requirements.

Is there a single material that is both fire retardant and heat-shrinkable?

Yes. Griffolyn® TX-1600FR UVS is UV-stabilized, heat-shrinkable, reinforced, and fire-retardant in one material, making it a fit for protecting equipment around critical materials or active work areas where both a tight seal and flame resistance are needed.
